Everything I know I Learned From My Girlfriends

Every once in a while, we are given the opportunity to relish a moment. Our lives are always set on fast forward, what we are doing next, how we are going to get ahead, and so forth, that we lose focus on enjoying great moments when the are happening. Too many times I have been so intent on my next move that I didn't realilze I was having fun until later when I looked back.

This past weekend I learned to capture the moment. Girlfriends are wonderful people. Guys will come and go, family you are stuck with. but when it's all said and done, at the end of my road, when I am old and wrinkled looking back at life, I will smile knowing that the people shuffling around the old folks home with me are my girlfriends - my true 'sisters' that taught me everything I need to know.

1. How to laugh at yourself. If you can't laugh at yourself when three girls are rolling around on the floor laughing at you, then you will never really know how big an ass you really are.

2. How to be a "wingman", and how to spot someone elses. This may be one of the most important jobs of being a good friend. Set the stage for her, give her the spotlight, and be ready to 'accidentally' spill something on anyone who tries to get in the way.

3. How to tell someone they shouldn't wear that outfit and make them love you anyway. this isn't about "does my butt look big in these jeans?", it's about being honest, looking her straight in the eye, and saying, "honey, you look like a hooker - and not an expensive one" and knowing that you have just saved yourself, I mean her, a lot of embarrasment. It's also about being ready with a back-up outfit that makes her look way hotter than you ever could.

4. How to get anywhere without directions. We are girls, we stop and ask. Then we laugh about that one time, when so and so just wouldn't stop and we got lost, and there was a fight...boys are just silly.

5. How to create a business plan for anyone, anytime, on any bar napkin. Just to give Sarah enough courage to give out her number.

6. The most important one of all - with girlfriends you can accomplish anything, from something as simple as a smile, to letting you know that you will never fall far. You may fall, but there will always be someone there to pick you up, put another drink in your hand, and yell, "Hey, is that George Clooney over there?!" just to help you save face!

What a timely article for me to read. I just had the experience of laughing so hard we cried with two of my peeps. We weren't really sure what was so funny at the end, but boy did it feel good to share that experience. Thanks for the other points too! It makes me want to reach out and give some love. ~ Aimee

Thanks so much! I understand how life takes you away from some of the people that you love, and how it hurts, but it's always great to look ahead for new experiences that are waiting to become memories :)
